What it was like in a Paulo Freire Classroom

Share

Stu shares his experience of taking a 400 level college course on Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed. In this class, the students graded themselves, led discussions, and structured the class so the professor could not “oppress” the students. Classes like this are really an excuse to talk about radical theory and make students think these are “enlightened ideas”. It does not help a student grow, but does lead to more activists. Similar styles of teaching are now being used at the University of Richmond.
